The Outer God Shub-Niggurath, the All-Mother and wife of the Not-To-Be-Named-One, is the perverse fertility deity of the Cult of Shub-Niggurath and a known general of Quake's armies. Descriptions of this being vary, but she is often said to appear as an enormous cloudy mass which extrudes black tentacles, slime-dripping mouths, and short, writhing goat legs. Small creatures are spat forth, which are either reconsumed into the miasmatic form or escape to some monstrous life elsewhere.
The Cult of Shub-Niggurath Edit
This ancient cult is thought to have existed for thousands of years, and has been known to include wildly varying groups of worshippers, both past and present. These include the ancient Hyperboreans, the Muvians, and the people of Sarnath, as well as any number of druidic and barbaric cults. She is also said to be worshiped by non-human species, such as the "Fungi from Yuggoth" (the Mi-Go) and the Nug-Soth of Yaddith.
With the proper occult paraphernalia, it is said Shub-Niggurath can be summoned to any woodlands at the time of the new moon. The place from whence she came from was a source of debate for a long time among members of the cult; suggestions included that she dwells at the court of Azathoth at the center of the Universe, or that she lives beneath the planet Yaddith, where she is served by the Dholes. However, her place of residence was eventually confirmed by inter-dimensional explorers from Earth to lie somewhere in the arcane depths of the Slipgate Realm, beyond our plane of reality.
Defeating Shub-Niggurath Edit
Shub-Niggurath's death was the final victory of Terrans over the Quake Menace. The creature sat in the middle of an enormous pit full of it's spawn. After a lengthy battle, the Ranger found a Slipgate leading to the pit, and defeated Shub-Niggurath's vile children. It appears, however, that Shub-Niggurath herself was immune to all earthly weapons, as even the mighty lightning gun didn't phase her. Finally, the Ranger slew the vile demon by using one of her weapons against her: By stepping through the Slipgate that brought reinforcements into the pit, the Ranger opened a micro-wormhole inside the demoness, tearing her apart and saving earth.
